Endoscopy and investigation room module

Video South frequently integrates videoconference networks with endoscopy suites. images from the endoscopy systems provided by Olympus, Fujinon or Pentax are correctly configured to the network without impairing existing quality or facilities. Standard packages now exist for teaching and remote viewing, intensive training of advanced medical staff and mentoring within the department.

Endoscopy room equipped for demonstration of upper and lower GI procedures

  • a slim wall box or the teleconference trolley controls local equipment, image selection and the network service
  • wall/ceiling mounted cameras with full remote control of PAN/TILT and 10:1 zoom lens gives external orientating view and close up of instruments

Mentoring and supervision

A more recent development has been interactive links to connect procedure rooms. This allows advanced trainees to signal their senior colleague for advice. This consultant can also be performing endoscopy. The system allows the trainee to send their live endoscope image to the consultant's room monitor and they can then discuss the trainee's case as it is performed. This allows consultants with training duties to be carrying out endoscopy on their own patients while maintaining standards for clinical governance with respect to supervising advanced junior staff.
